Rittoo, winter begins

by Mrs. Daniela Schifano

November 6th and 7th 2010, San Giorgio in Cremano (Naples)

"The winter rises", these two Kanji indicate. It is  '"Rittoo", so in Japan is called the season  which according to the lunar calendar begins on the 7th-8th of November.

And these days, under a not really wintry,  but warm and almost summer sun, the Second National Exhibition Kokoro-no Bonsai Ten, organized by the Naples Bonsai Club took place in St. George in Cremano.

Bonsai Exhibition of soul, mind and heart, this is the leitmotif of the event, which we find in the words of President Mr. Antonio Acampora: "The bonsai allows us to get in tune with the laws of nature, with a living tree, what the Japanese masters call spirit and perhaps this is the spirit, the heart (kokoro) that the bonsai suggests. "
From such assumptions and feelings originated a show full of teaching, with the classical bonsai demos and presentations, with the live working of a daiza for suiseki lovers, with the market, the elegant wide exhibition spaces, the gala dinner and awards, the Neapolitan hospitality and friendship.
But I think that the presents’ heart was touched by a unique moment, when by the hands of Mr. Tiberio Gracco we literally saw a pot 'grow', born from the earth like the bonsai it will host. Delicate hands, those of Tiberio, but professional and firm, that know how to work to transform a rectangle of clay into an art object.
